WHO IS RYAN PERSINGER?
Ryan is originally from Iowa City, Iowa. He moved to Washington, Iowa in grade school. Ryan was raised in a very religious home with two loving parents who encouraged his musical interests, until he found rock and roll. As punishment for his different lifestyle, they took away Ryan's guitar at age 15. Ryan would play friends guitars, keyboards, drums any instrument he could get his hands on. Shortly after, Ryan discovered a local bar that hosted a Open Mic, through a friends dad he made arrangements to play first, because he wasn't old enough to be in the bar past 10.
Ryan was hooked and found his place of peace and tranquility in front of a crowd with a instrument, or in many cases instruments, in his hands and a microphone in his face. Much of Ryan's senior year in high school was spent traveling from friends house to friends house, playing wherever he could, and sleeping on a sofa or floor. After high school, Ryan's parents gave back his guitar and he moved back to the Iowa City area, where music was plentiful and he could work towards his dream of playing music fulltime.
2008 was a great year for Ryan. He helped form the band, Five In A Hand, and has had many wonderful experiences with the band. Including playing at Summer Camp Music Festival 2009, Camp Euphoria 2009, Fall Frolic Music Festival, and the Fire in the Flatlands Music Festival. As well as opening for bands such as That One Guy and Mike Dillon's Go-Go Jungle. Five in a Hand released their album "If You're Lucky..." March 27, 2010.
In March of 2009, Ryan joined Johnny On Point, an electronic/jam/dance band, in which he plays guitar and keyboard. Along with Derek Pulliam, Ryan has been able to share the stage with EOTO, The Histronic, The Re-up, and That One Guy. Johnny on Point has also played numerous music festivals, including Little Big Fest 09', Recession Fest 09', Fall Frolic Music Festival, Fire in the Flatlands Music Festival, Come Unity Fest 10', and the Future History Music Festival 10'.
In late 2009, with the financial support of the owner of the bar where he played his first open mic, 6 years prior, Ryan formed The Ryan Persinger Project. With a goal of playing music wherever, whenever and with whomever.
WHAT IS THE RYAN PERSINGER PROJECT (TRPP)?
Ryan realized the power of music playing that first Open Mic. Ryan understands the importance of the open mic venues and the opportunities they give to countless individuals everyday to express themselves. With that in mind Ryan has set out to play an Open Mic venue in all 48 lower states in 2010. (Maybe even Alaska and Hawaii if Bob gets over his phobia of flying)
The mission of TRPP is two fold.
1. Bring attention to the great venues promoting live entertainment through Open Mic's
2. Share Ryan's talent with the world.
